This is video 434 of my video posting project. I have been working on this project since November 2023--learning and posting a video of new piano music (almost) every day! (I'm counting videos instead of days now!)

Today's selection is "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" by Manning Sherwin and Eric Maschwitz. This arrangement can be found in Brent Edstroms collection: "Jazz Piano Solos: Coffee Table Jazz".

I have loved this song since I heard Manhattan Transfer's version on their Anthology: Down In Birdland album. I love the beautiful melody in this piece but I've always wondered about the lyrics: Why is it spelled "Berkeley" but pronounced "Bark-lee". I think this arrangement is superb--I've searched a long time for one that I liked, so I was so excited to see this in the Coffee Table Jazz book.
