Prelude No. 3 - Michael Valenti

#med (Music.Every.Day)

Day 183 of my daily video posting project. I have been working on this project since November 2023--posting a video of piano music every single day!

This video is called "Prelude No.3 " by Michael Valenti in his collection called "Piano Preludes". It can also be found in the Celebration Series Sixth Edition book from the Royal Conservatory of Music. It is as a List D (Post-romantic, 20th-century and 21st-century repertoire ) choice for the Level 8 Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations.

This piece is catchy--usually pieces play over and over in my brain until I sit down and record them, but some tend to linger longer. I find myself humming this one throughout the day. I like the cheerful energy of the staccato chords verses the smooth parts. The piece changes time signatures--most of the smooth parts are in 5/4 & 4/4 time while the staccato chord sections tend to stick to 4/4 time.

The smooth parts are challenging--there are wide leaps in the left hand broken chord patterns, and the right hand has chords that change with every beat. I couldn't find a whole lot of information about this composer, aside from the fact that he has done a lot of work on Broadway! He has a few collections of piano music that look like they will be fun to explore though!

Tune in tomorrow for more of my #music.every.day experiment!
