British MOD Military Survival Knife with Carbon Sheffield Steel - A giant slab of steel possibility
This is the official issue British MOD (Ministry Of Defence) survival knife.
This knife has a carbon steel THICK blade which is a powerhouse of chopping capability. It is heavier than the head that wears the crown. For a knife, it weighs a ton! (not literally).
It came with a usable edge on it, but for a bit better slicing capability I have put a bit better edge on it using a 600 grit diamond stone and a strop.
These usually go in military vehicles, probably because of their weight. In a pinch they can be used to chop wood, cut, dig, hammer, all sorts of things can be done with this heavy knife.
The handle is not too comfortable, so I would recommend wearing gloves or modifying the sharp edges of the handle to aid comfort while using.
It is a BEEFY knife that will last you forever. I thought the Ka-Bar was a beater knife until I saw this lol. This knife takes the 1st place award and eats the cake for the beater title. It's a damn tank!
I am very glad to have this in my collection and for me, this will be a use knife, not just a show piece. Most of my knives get some sort of use now and then. However this one is so beefy it might see main use in the garden.
Here's what an original one from the 1950's looked like. It was manufactured by Wilkinson Sword: https://i.imgur.com/pMrzevj.png
