A brief look at the history of British Police Handcuffs developments from Victorian period to today

This is a somewhat complete showing of the basic milestone handcuffs that were issued to British police as a main pair of handcuffs, based on all the models I own. There are others such as hinged handcuffs and other odd-ball cuffs like TKS Type-E that weren't super widely used that are not covered in this video.

Covered in this video are:

• Come-alongs both rigid and chain. The particular chain version shown are from Communist East Germany, but the same design was used much earlier in varying forms.
• Victorian Non-adjustable Darby handcuffs from late 1800's
• Adjustable Darby handcuffs
• 1960's Chain-link Hiatt
• 1960's Hiatt - Peerless handcuff
• 1970's Chain-link Hiatt
• 1980's Chain-link Hiatt
• 1990's Chain-link hiatt
• 1990's Quik-Kuf RIgid Grips for chain-link handcuffs
• 1990's Quik-Kuf Rigid handcuffs (first fully rigid cuffs)
• mid 1990's Hiatt 2103 Rigid handcuffs (referred to as speedcuffs)
• 2000's + TCH 840 Rigid handcuffs.

One thing I forgot to mention about the special converter grips that were initially used to convert a chain pair to being pseudo rigid, was that they were designed for right-handed only. After the grips were a success the actual rigid cuffs were designed to be ambidextrous.

As I said earlier, there are other ones not included here. However these are, I would say, the primary milestones in the progression of the development of British police handcuffs.
