World war 2 Mk2 Enfield No 4 rifle spike bayonet. Militaria.

This is the world war 2 spike bayonet for the No 4 Enfield rifle. It is different than most modern bayonets in that, it's not knife-like but instead it's more of a pointed long screwdriver or nail type of poky thing.

I am not sure why they did not put a full-on triangular sharp tip on it. It has a slightly flattened edge like a flat head screw driver, only a really fine one at the end. Looks like it would be effective as a charging impaling defensive weapon.

It could be attached to an entrenching tool handle of the day for the purposes of mine detection as a mine probe. However, being made of steel, it's magnetic and would not likely be a very good probe in the modern day. I think modern probes are non-magnetic to help not accidentally going boom when you find one.

I bought this because it was very cheap and was a WW2 piece of history that I could add to my militaria shelf.
