Stove Exchange: 1958 Frigidaire to 1951 Kelvinator - Vintage Appliances
Podcast for this episode is available at: https://rss.com/podcasts/waynradiopodcast/134401/
In the spirit of a new year, I thought it was time to switch out the range in the Cavalcade studio kitchen. For the past few months, I have been enjoying using a 30" 1958 Frigidaire Deluxe range. This stove proved to be true and reliable, and a pleasure to use. It doesn't have a lot of fancy options, but it performs its cooking and baking tasks beautifully.
Coming into the studio is a 1951 (I originally had this logged as a 1948 model, but was incorrect). Kelvinator ER-9D range. This stove was the top-of-line for Kelvinator. It features double ovens, "Colormatic" controls (the element control knobs light up in different colors depending on which of 7 preset speeds you are using), "Automatic Cook" which allows you to set the start and stop time that the oven is on, and a "Rocket" heating unit which gets hot quickly. Of the four burners on the stovetop, three look to be original but the "Rocket" unit was replaced at some point.
In the weeks and months ahead, we will put this Kelvinator to the Cavalcade kitchen test! Looking forward to trying this beautiful vintage range!
