Cardiothoracic Surgery is an awesome specialty. There’s a high degree of prestige that comes with it, as well as a level of precision, detail, and technical skills needed that I love; like operating the da Vinci. That being said, it wasn't for me. Choosing a specialty is one of the most important decisions you'll make during medical school and everyone has their own reasons for choosing the specialty that they do. Here’s what I liked about cardiothoracic surgery, what I didn't like, and why I ultimately chose not to specialize in it.
