Snack Breaks 👏 #shorts

Wet ground brings out all the cool smells! 🐶 If you’ve ever noticed your dog gets more distracted on walks right after it rains, this is likely why. Add in the fact that you have had drought-like conditions for the past many months in a row with little precipitation? It’s going to be even more novel and distracting if it happens!

Which just means I’m going to be much more generous with my rewards for any and all attention I get from my dogs when the rain or snow (or both in our case) comes.

The game goes, you can sniff and explore all you want, and if you happen to look at me, I’ll reinforce you with food AND let you go back to sniffing. Do something really cool like choosing not to chase after a bunny when you see it and instead look at me in these conditions? Huge snack break party!!! 🎉

When conditions get harder for our dogs to listen to us, you can lessen your criteria you usually expect to match the new challenging environment. You will end up with a dog that still listens to you, checks in often, and now knows how to pay attention to you in a distracting environment. 👏
