🎃 Happy October! Halloween is right around the corner! Do you like putting costumes, bandanas, or themed gear on your dog? 👻

But here’s the big question… does your dog actually like it? Now’s the perfect time to start practicing before the big day!

Many dogs aren’t super comfortable with having gear put on. The good news? We can train for it just like we would with a harness or collar.

For example, Fenway isn’t naturally a fan of this process, but we built a communication system: if he comes to me and lowers his head, that’s his “ready” signal. If he backs away, I stop. Once the gear goes on, we throw a giant party 🎉 And if he says no? No big deal, I’ll honor that, and he knows it. Over time, giving him this choice actually makes him say “yes” WAY more often.

We practiced this with all kinds of gear—starting with something low stakes like a bandana. Now? He actually gets upset if Wrigley gets one and he doesn’t 😅

So instead of surprising your pup with a costume on Halloween night they have never seen before, use this month to help them feel confident and comfortable. 🐾
