Seva Teerth is the new headquarters of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and central administrative offices in New Delhi. It was officially inaugurated on 13 February 2026 and represents a major shift from the old South Block buildings, which were used since Independence but were originally built during British colonial times. With this change, the PMO, the National Security Council Secretariat, and the Cabinet Secretariat are now housed together in a modern facility designed for better coordination and efficiency.

Alongside Seva Teerth, the government also inaugurated Kartavya Bhavan-1 and Kartavya Bhavan-2 on the same day. These are part of a larger set of Kartavya Bhavan buildings that will form the new central secretariat complex for the ministries and important government departments. Several key ministries such as Finance, Defence, Health, Education, Law & Justice, Information & Broadcasting, Agriculture, and others will operate from these new buildings.

The names “Seva Teerth” and “Kartavya Bhavan” were chosen to reflect a shift toward service and duty-oriented governance, moving away from older colonial-era symbols. Seva Teerth literally means a “pilgrimage of service,” and Kartavya Bhavan means “duty residence,” signifying a focus on serving citizens.

This relocation is part of the Central Vista redevelopment project, which aims to modernize India’s administrative infrastructure with new, energy-efficient, and digitally integrated buildings. The historic North and South Block buildings will now be repurposed as part of a national museum to preserve their legacy, while primary government functions will take place in the new complexes.

In simple terms, Seva Teerth is the new central base for India’s top government offices and the PM’s official work, and Kartavya Bhavans are the new buildings where many important ministries will be located, marking a modern era in how the Indian government operates.
