On 14 February 2026, a large piece of concrete from an under-construction metro structure suddenly fell onto vehicles on LBS Road in Mulund West, Mumbai. The concrete slab, part of the ongoing Mumbai Metro Line-4 construction, collapsed without warning onto a moving car and an auto-rickshaw during busy daytime traffic.

The impact was severe. A man inside one of the vehicles died at the scene, and several other people were injured. Some of the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, and families of the injured rushed to the spot as news spread. The car that was struck by the falling concrete was badly damaged.

Local police and emergency services reached the site quickly, cordoning off the area and diverting traffic. Work on the metro construction was immediately halted while engineers and officials inspected the site to understand how such a large piece of concrete could break away.

In the days following the accident, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) took action by suspending some officials connected with the project and launching inquiries into construction safety practices. Authorities also announced compensation for the family of the person who died and medical support for those injured.

The incident sparked public outcry in Mumbai. Residents and commuters expressed worry about safety near major infrastructure projects, demanding tighter oversight, better quality control, and accountability from contractors and government agencies to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
