Arriving in Morocco, Kylie decides to give food and blankets to children traveling through the desert. During a nine hour journey from Marrakesh to the Atlas Mountains, Kylie’s tour guide,Driss, nostalgically shares his experience of life in the Sahara desert.

Growing up as a Moroccan child, Driss experienced a profound sense of community, of sharing and living sustainably off of the land. He would travel for weeks on camel back with his family, sharing tea and stories with complete strangers met along the way. He would watch how the landscape changed, learning the rhythm of the desert.

Kylie notices that her and Driss share similar values, despite their completely different upbringings. This is something known by the desert tribes - that we are all human beings, essentially the same. This acknowledgement of our shared nature is what Driss feels has been lost in the cities, where strangers barely acknowledge one another.

Kylie is taken back by the profound gratitude of the children she gives what she considers basic necessities to in the desert. This whole experience makes her question if society has in fact advanced at all in modern life, or whether we should be looking to these ancient ways of living in harmony with the planet and each other for deeper harmony and happiness.

Stay tuned for more adventures with Kylie!
