While you would expect government agencies to actually investigate real crimes that are being committed, the FBI has suprisingly spent a lot of time investigating music and musicians. Director J. Edgar Hoover was infamously paranoid, and he saw everyone from folk singers to rock icon Elvis as enemies of the state. Even though Hoover couldn’t prove they had done anything wrong, he investigated them regardless, and the investigations didn’t stop after his death.
