All Indian States Ranked By Poverty Rate (1994 - 2016)

#India has been paralyzed by #poverty for many years. It is home to world's 10% poor people. But the good news is that she is bringing out people out of poverty at a very fast rate. In this video, we compare how different states in India have had their poverty rate changed over the past years.

Please note that the methodology of measuring poverty changes with time. For example, up until 2000, the method used was proposed by the Lakadwala Committee which measures poverty by the calories that a person can consume, based on whether they live in a rural area or an urban one.

In 2000, we then adopted the Tendulkar Model which introduced the concept of Poverty Line - that is, the minimum money one should have per day to get basic necessities. India has not published any poverty data after 2012.

In 2016, Oxford University published the Multidimensional poverty ranking that takes into account multiple factors into consideration to compute poverty like access to education, water, health and so on.
