All Indian States Ranked By Literacy Rate (1951 - 2051)

India has made great strides in socioeconomic metrics ever since her independence. One of the key metrics of progress is literacy rate which is very strongly tied to economic progress. The definition of #LiteracyRate is different in all countries. The one in India has a very low bar - the number of people above 7 years who can read and write in any language. In spite of such a generic definition, India has only about 70% literacy rate.

It is a known fact that Kerala is the most literate state in India [PS: Shouldn't we just declare Kerala the best state in India yet!], but how about other states? How has the list changed? And wait for it, how is it going to change in the future? Yes, you heard that right. This also projects data into the future till 2050 and gives you what might the literacy rate then be.

The official list for 2011 is:

1. Kerala (94%)
2. Mizoram (91.5%)
3. Goa (89%)
4. Tripura (87.5%)
5. Himachal Pradesh (83.2%)
