On board a Rockaway Park bound R211A A train from 145th Street to Rockaway Park-Beach 116 Street
Seen here is a ride on a A train, operated by R211A, bound for Rockaway Park-Beach 116 Street.
During PM rush hour, some A trains start service at 168 Street and head downtown to the Rockaways, but instead of going to Far Rockaway, some of them go to Rockaway Park during afternoon and evening hours. Since the order of the R211As are coming in quickly, these will be replacing the R46s on the A to Rockaway Park since the R46 will be soon be phasing out on the A line due to CBTC upgrades and the R211As will be in its place since more are coming into service as of this year.
Starting since early this year, the R211A has been showcasing to Rockaway Park more often since the R46 is being moved out of the A line during PM rush hour. It will be running along with the R179 since it’s been on the A since 2019 and has been going out to Rockaway Park since it’s been in service. In this video, here’s a ride on the R211A going out to Rockaway Park, making express stops along the way towards Queens.
I was hoping to catch it at 168 Street on the way up, however, I was running late due to delays along the way and ended up starting at 145th Street, since it would be the second stop along the way. I know I have done A train rides to Rockaway Park many times, with an R46, R160, and a R179, however I never done it on a R211A going out to Rockaway Park since these trains are really good and faster reliability for service.
Before getting towards Rockaway Park, we got a little held up at Beach 105 Street due to being ahead of schedule and there was two R179s in the station ahead of us, so we waited a while until one leaved the station and got straight in.
In the end, it was taken out of service since it was a one way trip to Rockaway and would only serve that purpose during the PM rush hour to alleviate congestion at Far Rockaway at that time. It would go out of service and go straight to Rockaway Park Yard since it is right next to the station and would be there until the next day, or after the weekend when it would be up for the AM service and head of there as an A train to Manhattan.
