For Reasons Unknown (Second Guitar) - The Killers - Day & Age Tour Live
This is how Mark Stoermer played the second/rhythm guitar part of the song during the Day & Age tour of 2008-2009.
My video of Dave Keuning’s guitar part, can be found here: https://youtu.be/cYDX1e6jT9o
The guitar is tuned to Eb.
I've used the same finger/chord positions as Mark after watching YouTube videos of performances.
When performing For Reasons Unknown, Brandon Flowers plays the bass guitar part, so that Mark Stoermer can add a rhythm guitar part to the song.
I’ve recorded this cover over my existing cover of Dave’s part - Mark's guitar tends to sound a little quieter in the live mix compared to Dave's, so I've tried to get that balance.
Mark’s guitar enters with palm-muted power chords. The song verses after the intro feature normal power chords - which compliment the triads that Dave is playing.
The choruses feature slightly more full chords and in the middle-8 interlude, Mark is mostly raking through the the full six strings.
During that middle-8 section, Mark varies how he plays the last chord of each 4 chord repeat, sometimes strumming, other times, picking out single note arpeggios.
Guitar-wise, Mark used a Pre-2006 Gibson SG 61 Reissue in Cherry.
I’m using a Gibson Custom shop 1961 reissue SG in Cherry.
There are no effects in the song and most of it is played with overdrive, but Mark switches to a cleaner setting for the middle-8, before kicking in a drive pedal again, for the outro section.
