Girls Just Want to Have Fun (Acoustic Guitar) - The Killers - Live Day & Age Tour
This cover is based on how Dave Keuning played the song during a performance at Union Chapel, in London, on 08/11/08 during the Day & Age tour.
The guitar is tuned to Eb.
The Killers performed this cover of the Cyndi Lauper version of the (Robert Hazard) song, 3 times during the tour, with both Dave Keuning and Mark Stoermer on acoustic guitar - I will release a cover of Mark’s part, next.
Each time they played the song, it was a little different, particularly, Dave’s playing. The Union Chapel version is the most complete recording and has the best guitar solo in it, however.
I’m not 100% sure the riff that opens the song and repeats a few times throughout, is quite correct, but it’s close. There are definite differences in this performance (including hammering-on to the opening note and the last two dyads ending the riff) from the first time it was performed at the Pure Nightclub in Las Vegas (which I actually prefer).
In the verses, Dave’s basic strumming pattern is - down, up, down up, up, down, but he doesn’t religiously stick to it and some of the passing chords vary between up and down strokes.
Dave actually makes some mistakes, returning to a C barre chord, instead of F barre chord during the first verse and almost does it again during the second verse. I’ve not replicated this, but have played the correct chords, instead.
The chorus is just fast up and down strumming - Mark uses a more galloping rhythm.
The solo is nicely put together and generally straightforward, but has a couple of slightly tricky parts.
Dave played one of his Gibson J45 Standard guitars, without a feedback buster.
I’m playing a 2006 Gibson J45 Standard.
