Sydney, Australia Family Travel Video Opus :: WEEK 9

Sydney, Australia and its iconic Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbor Bridge. For an American world family travelers living on top of the world, it takes a long time to travel down under--and get turned upside down--so we could see all that for ourselves.

Wow, was it worth the trip our world family adventure.

Before arriving in Sydney, we spent a few days of extended travel in Townsville at the Billabong Sanctuary. This sanctuary, which includes a lot of native Australian animals, is a "hands-on" experience, allowing the children and adults to pet, feed, and interact with the animals. There is nothing like world traveling with kids!

Immediately after arriving in Sydney, we went straight to Bondi Beach (early fall weather was perfect for a beach day). Ren and Mike, being beach volleyball players, were curious to see the venue where two beach volleyball legends won the gold medal at the Sydney Olympics. We crossed the Pyrmont Bridge just as it was being swung open. We went to the Sea Life Aquarium Sydney and saw amazing marine life, including sharks, manta rays, and "Dories."

But the highlight of our Sydney experience, of course, was the Opera House, the Harbor Bridge, and the Sydney Harbor.

The idea and execution of constructing the Opera House changed the fate of a nation. Don't you associate Australia with that edifice? I do. Now, we know it: we know where it is relative to the city, we know its outside from up close and its inside too. It's an awesome building.

A trip to Australia without visiting the Opera House would make the trip just a little incomplete.
