159 : The Dáil Debates on the Treaty between Ireland and Great Britain with Des Dalton

Never did an issue divide the Irish nation like the Treaty debates of 1921 and early 1922. Ultimately of course this division in the Dáil led to the tragic Civil War.
"Was it that I should take an oath to be a faithful citizen of the British Empire? I tell you if you approve of this Treaty the Republic of Ireland, which I swore a solemn oath to uphold and honour, will sink in the world's eyes to less than Dominion status within the Empire."
Kate O'Callaghan 1921
Facilitated by Marcus Howard from Easter Rising Stories
