Lefty Drumset Challenge!

Can I do it? Can YOU do it? Can we survive the LEFTY DRUMSET CHALLENGE?? I survived it, but I can’t say I made it out unscathed. Today you guys get to watch me attempt to play lefty drum set…for the very first time. I’ve never sat down at a lefty kit, and I’ve never tried reversing mine - until today. I made sure to film and record the whole process so that I could give you guys the highlights. We start off with my pre-game predictions of how I think I’ll do…then wrap things up with a bit of a discussion of what all I learned in the twenty minutes spent on the backwards kit. Have fun watching me test the limits of my coordination…But be sure to take the lefty challenge yourself! Try reversing your kit, and see what it does to your brain. You might realize you’ve taken your drum skill for granted, because playing on a backwards kit is like sitting down at a new instrument. It’s fascinating though how reversing things can further your coordination in ways you hadn’t previously imagined. If we REALLY want to “master” our coordination, let’s learn everything backwards.
