DMK has formally requested separate seating for its MPs in the Lok Sabha #shorts

New Delhi: In a major sign of the growing political split between DMK and Congress, the DMK has formally requested separate seating for its MPs in the Lok Sabha following the collapse of the two parties' long-standing alliance in Tamil Nadu.

DMK Parliamentary Party leader and Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking a new seating arrangement for the party's 22 MPs in the House.

In the letter, Kanimozhi said the "changed political circumstances" and the end of DMK's alliance with the Congress made it inappropriate for DMK MPs to continue sitting alongside Congress members in Parliament.

She also stated that separate seating would help DMK MPs "effectively discharge their parliamentary responsibilities."

The development comes shortly after Congress decided to back actor-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, ending its decades-old partnership with the DMK.

The move is being widely viewed as a symbolic "political divorce" between the two parties and has sparked discussions about possible tensions within the broader INDIA opposition bloc.

As of now, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's office has not officially announced a decision on the seating request.
