Delicious replacement for the afternoon tea, all you need is a Hibiscus flower tree | Traditional Me

The only "kamatha" for all the paddy fields in the area was ours. This is where the harvest is brought and the rice is separated from the straw. Now it has become a island of greenery full of trees and growth, and my brother uses it to grow some vegetables. Since it's a bit far away from our house, it's hard to maintain but I found a vine of cooking melon there recently, that was full of fruit. My aunt loves to eat the cooking melon coconut curry(Kakiri Niyambalawa) and she prefers to eat the one I cook, so I made a giant portion enough to serve us and both my aunts. Cumin seeds, mustard, garlic and coconuts mixed together to give it the perfect taste. Even though most people cook it to be spicy, I prefer to cook it more temperate.

I saved the seeds by pasting them in the kitchen wall to replant them. I remember my grandmother planting various types of cooking melons near our house and my grandfather would take them and replant them properly when they started growing.

It was late evening when I came home from picking the cooking melon, but the cooking went fast because Grandmother helped me as well. Not only did we cook on time, managed to made a hibiscus drink aswell.

Hibiscus flowers are gorgeous when in bloom, and it's a plant that most of the houses in the village has. Hibiscus is also very good for your health. I love to see the colour change that happens when you add lime to the hibiscus water. Some people call this 'hibiscus tea' but not a lot of people make it these days.

Anyway, I declared the day a success as I was able to take the cooking melon curry to my aunt's house before they had dinner!

Love you all!
Nadee
