Rambutan! of course they are sweet, but I made them more Sweeeeet! | Traditional Me

Once again the colorful rambutan season is here in Sri Lanka. Rambutan is very common everywhere at this time of every year, with a large variety of different bright, reds and yellows in color & different yummy tastes. Still it’s the start of the rambutan season! Rambutan trees, dressed with bright red juicy fruits automatically attracts the village boys, birds and squirrels. Our brother is worse than a small kid! No sooner I mentioned to him to go and pluck some rambutan and when I walked upto the tree, he has already started picking the fruits.
Actually to me a rambutan tree laden with bright red luscious rambutans is like a carnival. You really should experience this phenomenal sight where you won’t feel like taking your eyes off from this blanket of red juicy rambutans hanging everywhere in the tree.

Come to think of it no any Srilankans have ever made any dish out of this Rambutan except to enjoy it as a fruit! So I thought of making a delicious chutney out of rambutan. Trust me its worth trying this chutney with an extraordinary tastes of sweet, sour and salty tastes harmoniously Complimenting each other!

I tried another novel dish out of these juicy rambutans, rambutan Jam! I followed the pineapple jam method and added the rambutans into the mixture. I know you will love this jam as it gives a very fruity subtle flavor mellowing the acidic taste of the pineapple. An ideal jam to spread ontop of the steam cakes. It’s fascinating to look at the unusual color of the decorated butter cake with a layer of translucent crystal color jam and the red colored rambutan on top. I used beetroot juice to color the rambutan because it had given a beautiful red color with that sweet beetroot taste!
I definitely have to tell you about my brothers rambutan drink! I can tell you that It has a unique refreshing, delicious taste because it’s a combo with sweet oranges, black grapes, ginger juice mixed with the yum rambutan juice. This awesome taste gives you another experience when you bite the fruit pieces in this juice with every mouthful . I was a bit upset thinking that my brother might not make his magical juice when I told him that the kitchen has no space for us both! I wouldn’t want to miss his mocktail that tingle my taste buds every time I drink it!
