Tech Leaders Call For Halt to AI Development

A bunch of tech leaders have signed an open letter calling for AI development to be halted out of fear it might be becoming too powerful!

TECH EXPERTS WANT TO STOP AI
Today, Elon Musk, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, and hundreds of other tech experts have signed a letter calling for powerful AI systems to be stopped. It's no secret that it's getting harder and harder to spot when something is generated by AI, and loads of companies have been racing to integrate it without stopping to think if they actually should. A few weeks ago, OpenAI released GPT-4, which is so powerful it's capable of passing a lawyer's bar exam. So, those who have signed the letter think that we could begin to rely on AI too much, or that it could get so smart we might not be able to reliably control it. They want the development of anything more powerful than GPT-4 to be halted for the next six months and even think governments should step in to make it happen quickly. To be clear, they're not saying we should get rid of AI. They're seeing it as more of an 'AI summer' where we can enjoy what AI has to offer while not allowing things to get too out of hand. And if we've hit a point where I could use AI to fake my voice on the news, then it's probably a good wake-up call for all of us.

PRIME BANNED IN SCHOOLS
Schools across the country are banning Prime energy drinks! There's been a bit of a frenzy around the super-caffeinated drink after YouTubers and owners KSI and Logan Paul launched a massive campaign for it. A can of Prime Energy contains almost twice the legal amount of caffeine allowed in drinks in Australia, which can be really dangerous for young people to consume. While it's not available in stores, some students are buying it online and even trying to resell it on campus, prompting schools across the country to ban them.

OUTBACK BUS
One of Australia's most remote primary schools has had a huge spike in student enrolments. And it's all thanks to a local school bus going that extra mile. Could you imagine making a two-hour round trip to school each day? Well, these country kids don't seem to mind. These guys go to school in Stonehenge. It's a tiny town with a population of about 30. And to get there, Grandma Porter, slash, School Bus Driver, makes the 150 kilometre journey to school and back possible. You see, before there was a bus service, only 3 students were enrolled at the school. So with worries about dwindling enrolments and the school's future, a daily bus run was started to try and get more kids in the classroom, and it's working!

T-REX SKELETON
First up, to this giant T-Rex skeleton going up for auction in Switzerland! Nicknamed TRX-293, or just Trinity, it stands at just under 4 metres tall. Full T-Rex skeletons like Trinity are hard to come by. This is only the third one ever to be auctioned. It's expected to sell for between $8 and $13 million dollars.

GRANNY WORLD CUP
Now to South Africa, where a group of grannies have decided to host the first-ever International Football Tournament for Grannies! Originally started to help older women stay healthy, it's been a big success, inspiring similar teams across the country and beyond. The tournament featured 32 teams from around the world.

SHAUN THE SHEEP GOES TO SPACE
And finally, to Shaun the Sheep's latest adventure! Yep, this figurine of Shaun recently went to the moon aboard NASA's Artemis 1 mission.
