Socceroos Historic Win at the World Cup

SOCCEROOS WIN
The Socceroos made history overnight. Making it to the World Cup knockout stage for just the second time ever! Celebrations erupted in Qatar and all around Australia. For many Socceroo fans, it certainly does feel like a dream. For the first time since 2006, and for only the second time in history, the Socceroos are through to the knockout stage of the world cup. After defeating Denmark 1 - nil. Beating a top 10 side is one thing to celebrate but this win is also the first time the Aussies have won two games at any world cup. While green and gold flooded Qatar. Melbourne was dyed red. And cities around Australia erupted in celebration. But the job isn't done yet, the Socceroos will now face off against Argentina in the early hours of Sunday morning.

TIKTOK TAN BAN
TikTok has partnered with the Melanoma Institute Australia to try and encourage Aussies to be more sun smart. Australia actually has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. The campaign - 'Tanning. That's Cooked' hopes to uses humour to throw shade at tanning by highlighting the dangers of lying in the sun. Users who search for beach, sunburn, summer, sun and similar hashtags will also see a pop-up banner for an anti-tanning campaign.

BAGUETTE LISTING
It's difficult to resist a fresh baguette with its crisp crust and deliciously soft interior, and apparently, the United Nations agrees! Because now this French delicacy has earned a special spot on the world cultural heritage list. Flour, water, salt, and yeast. These are the four simple ingredients that make up baguettes! And now, this delicious mascot of French cuisine is being added to the UNESCO "intangible cultural heritage" list. It's a list set up by the United Nations that recognises traditions around the world that need to be preserved. Also on it are things like traditional Chinese tea making, the use of traditional Indonesian percussion instruments and centuries-old calligraphy art in Turkey. And now to the delight of many bakers, the tradition of baguette making has been added.

For many French people, the humble baguette is an essential element of meal preparation in their country. It's also serving as a symbol of sharing and friendliness. And it's said that the country bakes 16 million of them a day. The decision to add this bread staple comes as France's culture ministry warns of a serious decline in traditional bakeries. But the baguette is a fighter, it rose to popularity in the 1920s because it was the easiest bread to make due to its shape. And now that it's been officially acknowledged as something to protect, I think it's safe to say it won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

VOLCANO VISITS
Mauna Loa in Hawaii started erupting earlier this week. But something strange is happening. You see, people aren't running away, they're actually flocking to the volcano. To snap selfies and see it for themselves. A main highway has also been packed out with thousands of cars jamming traffic just to get a glimpse of the volcanic beast. And authorities are telling people to stay safe and alert.

SPOTIFY WRAPPED
456,000,000. That's how many people around the world have a Spotify account, and today, they all got their "Spotify Wrapped" results. Which basically tells you which artists and songs you've listened to the most in 2022. And the number one artist Australians couldn't get enough of was Taylor Swift. But the most streamed song and album this year went to Harry Styles. For "As it Was", off the album "Harry's House".

ANIMAL ADVENT CALENDAR
And finally, 24 days! That's how many more there are until Christmas. And at London Zoo in the UK, zookeepers have surprised animals with advent calendars to help them get into the festive spirit. I don't think they've got the hang of it just yet. You're supposed to open one a day. Ah. Nevermind.
