PCT day 18 a 16.8 miles Pacific Crest Trail Woke up on a couch in the hostel and hit the ground running—well, hiking. For breakfast? Pop-Tarts slathered in peanut butter and a comically massive Mountain Dew (thanks, Walmart?). Couldn’t even finish it.

Hit the trail with Rizzler and it was already cooking outside. We climbed through the Mesa Wind Farm and into the Whitewater Preserve—beautiful, but I was low on water. After two miles of trudging through hot, soft sand, I finally reached Whitewater Creek. Supposedly the biggest stream crossing in the first 700 miles of the desert, but it must be drought city this year as it wasn’t very impressive. Still, taking the shoes off and soaking in the cold water was unbelievable .

Post-break, I headed back up into the mountains. Passed the spot where a hiker had to be airlifted off a cliff a month ago after missing a switchback—wild to see in person. Later caught up with the trail fam and we dropped into Mission Creek.

Called it early today. Tomorrow we tackle the infamous Mission Creek drainage—ten miles of storm-ravaged rock-hopping from the 2023 tropical storm. Tonight? Shady chill time, card games, a creek dip, and cowboy camping under the stars.
