Ally Camo knife handles, a howto tutorial for IRR compliant camouflage of gear

This is a howto tutorial and demo of how to camouflage handles of knives. This will work on anything, like rifles and other equipment.

This customisation is IRR compliant, which means under nightvision illumination the tape as well as the camouflage will not glow and give away your location.

Items used are British military SCAPA sniper tape, camouflage cream and renaissance wax. However under field conditions, the wax could be omitted, as it's only there to preserve the finish and stop it from coming off on your hands.

SCAPA sniper tape is quite versatile. You can use it for temporary repair of clothing and tents, use it to prevent shine on metallic objects, stop metal on metal clanging noise, insulate surfaces from extreme cold or heat to protect your hands when handling items. I have an old pair of boots I use in the garden or to walk to the shop, which have split at the side. The black SCAPA sniper tape is what I use to hold it together and keep the cold air and some of the rain out.

This idea of customising to either improve or make unique is called "Ally" in the military. The phrase Allyness Saves Lives, is often a thing. https://charliecharlieone.com/the-meaning-of-ally-allyness-and-allyness-saves-lives/
