How To Activate the Glute | Glute Medius Wall Lean | Chesterfield Chiropractor
Many questions are often asked on how to activate the glute complex. When activating the glute, we try to bias the exercise for the glute medius or glute maximus, or sometimes, both. The glute medius wall lean is a great way to get the glute medius to fire. It is a closed chain exercise which translates well to everyday activity.
When doing the exercise, it is extremely important to focus on body alignment. The knee must be in line with the foot and front of the hip. Most importantly, the pelvis must stay level. Try to avoid hiking of the stance leg hip. Try to inch your upper back towards the wall without touching. This puts added difficulty into both hips. To progress, simply move the stance leg further from the wall or hold for longer duration.
We like to use the glute medius wall lean as a dynamic warm up but also for active rest. For example, in between your dead lift sets we would do the exercise rather than resting.
As with all prehab exercises, there should be no pain or discomfort. IF there is, please get evaluated by a licensed professional.
