Train Cab Ride NL / Haarlem - Alkmaar - Haarlem / DDM1 Intercity / May 2019

Cab Ride video on the intercity service from Haarlem to Alkmaar during rush hour. A pretty unique video because we don't get to run DDM1 a lot anymore. This train from the 80's has never been refurbished and will be set aside in the end of 2019/start of 2020. NS ordered over 200 new sprinter trains that will appear on the tracks one by one that will replace DDM1 soon.

We depart perfectly on time from Haarlem. The intercity's between Alkmaar and Haarlem only runs during rush hour in the busiest direction. Meaning this IC runs from Alkmaar to Haarlem in the morning and from Haarlem to Alkmaar in the evening. On the way back the train runs empty because of lack of passengers on these rides. This gives space in planning to take the train manager off the train and let the train driver let the train back to its starting point.

On our way to Alkmaar we make stops at Beverwijk, Castricum and Heiloo. In the past it also skipped Castricum and Heiloo, but there were many complaints about. Thats why NS decided to make the train stop at those stations as well.

DDM1's braking system works on the pneumatic system. So every time we need to hit the brakes you can hear air running away from our braking handle. This means the brakes are applied slowly from the front to the back of the train. Also when loosening the brakes it takes longer before the whole train is loose from its brakes compared to other trains that work with a electro pneumatic system.

On our arrival in Alkmaar we changes cabine and take the train back to Haarlem. As you can see we won't make stops at all. Only at Santpoort Noord for a little moment. But that's not to load passengers. That is done because the sprinter service to Haarlem is still on the tracks ahead.

I hope you enjoy this ride in 4K 60fps. Because it was cloudy I recorded in high frame rate again. Without the sun my camera doesn't overheat.
