Hey everyone its Matt and in this video we are going to be talking about overcoming the pain associated with these intrusive Retroactive Jealousy thoughts you might be having. I’ve talked about it a lot on this channel but there is a difference between the actual thought of your partners past… and the reaction or response you get to the thought. This reaction you are getting is an adrenaline filled response… and the same thing happens when you are in danger. In other words… the emotion that you are feeling is FEAR! So if we know how to overcome our fears… we can use this same strategy in overcoming the painful feelings we get when these intrusive thoughts pop into our head! Retroactive Jealousy is about facing your fear every single day. Literally in order to overcome Retroactive Jealousy you have to walk through fear every moment of every day…and this is absolutely a good thing! Because you are going to come out the other side a completely unbelievable changed person for the better. I just did a video talking about the cure to Retroactive Jealousy OCD and I mentioned this every time you think a bothersome thought about your parters past… your body responds as if it is in danger Your body is being flooded with adrenaline making it seem like you are in a lot of danger. You aren’t in any danger at all… you are sitting on the couch right..The normal response to a thought like this would be something like… oh well thats not the best thing to think about right now… doesn’t really serve me much.. so lets think about something else. You’ll get there! But its important that right now you stop focusing so much on the thought itself.. but instead focus on the emotion and feeling that it generates. Because again its the emotion that actually is bothering you, not the actual thought. This feeling.. this emotion is fear. You fear these thoughts. But here’s the bottom line. What happens when you fear something? How do you overcome that fear? Well usually someone exposes themselves to that fear. Maybe its a fear of swimming.. what do you do? You get in the water a lot. You feel uncomfortable at first of course… but then eventually that fear goes away and you feel ok. i knew something that was terrified of scary movies.. like it would give them nightmares. So what did they do. They made themselves watch a scary movie every night for like a month. And now they love them! I had an old roommate who hated large crowds. But he wanted to go to concerts and things like that but just feared being in a situation like that. So we started going to theme parks together… eventually he got over it. So its all about exposing yourself little by little to your fears and soon you stop fearing them. Soon that adrenaline feeling goes away. Now I wanna share something with you. For as long as I can remember I’ve been terrified of heights. Anything above probably 15 feet in the air… I would start feeling pretty queasy in my stomach. Anything above 100 feet tall I’d feel like out scared for my life! I was scared to always go up roller coaters… that were 300 feet tall… roller coasters.. don’t even get me started about the space needle in Seattle which is 600 feet tall. Even being up in airplanes I hated looking out the window. After having this fear for 30 years… I just got sick and tired of having it. I wanted to be over it. And one thing I learned especially from rj… if you expose yourself to the fear… you’ll stop fearing it. So 3 weeks ago I went to Las Vegas with my aunt… a little nephew/aunt trip. And I decided to face my fear of heights I had my whole life and jump off of the Stratosphere tower in Las Vegas....
