The SOAPBOX- RISES 101- WHICH RISE TYPE ARE YOU? TOP MOST COMMON RISES WE SEE IN CLINIC
EYE SPY WITH MY LITTLE RISE... Something that is not quite right! It seems so simple to do rises on two feet in parallel but do you know HOW many little habits dancers develop with these that they do not realize? Habits that- if not corrected- can lead to some horrible tendonitis', ankle sprains and even stress fractures. Habits that can prevent them from being cleared for pointework especially. If you don't have these mastered in demi pointe, why would we put these same ankles in a pointe shoe- a much smaller, much LESS stable base of support?! Because that's just a recipe for disaster...
Perfecting the two foot rise in parallel may seem simple but we challenge you to take a closer look at your own two foot rises, and/ or your students... you may be surprised by what you see when you go back to some of these basics...
ARE YOU...
A WOBBLER?
A SNAPPER?
A TWISTER?
A SCRUNCHER?
A ROCKER OR A ROLLER?
So before you get excited about getting up "on your TOEBOX" (aka pointeshoes!) join me FIRST ON THE SOAPBOX this week as we look a little closer at our rise technique and see if you can pick out "which rise type" are you? It seems so simple but this is one of the MOST COMMON & IMPORTANT things we need to "clean up" in ANY dance assessment be it preventing injury, coming back from injury or prepping for pointework.
ENJOY!!
