What Did German Soldiers Eat During the Second World War? #history #ww2 #food

In the early years of the conflict, from 1939 to 1941, German soldiers received standard daily rations providing between 3,600 and 4,200 calories. When stationed at the front with no access to kitchens or fresh provisions, they used the ‘Eiserne Portionen’, or Iron Rations, designed to sustain a soldier for one to three days. Following the setbacks of Operation Barbarossa and the disaster at Stalingrad, food shortages increased both on the home front and on the battlefronts.
