The facial expressions of legendary conductor Kurt Masur
Kurt Masur was born in Lower Silesia in 1927 and he was the music director of Gewandhaus Orchestra from 1970 to 1996. During this time, he performed more than 900 concerts while touring with the ensemble. In addition to his creative work, he is best remembered for his political involvement during the "peaceful revolution" in Leipzig, where he used his position as music director of Gewandhaus to raise awareness of state violence in East Germany. Sunsequently, Kurt Masur became the music director of the New York Philharmonic and chief conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra before passing away in 2015 in the United States.
