Montréal Sound ~ Music 1977 Very Special Remix By PAJ
This is a record that is near and dear to my heart, the PAJ Remix of Montreal Sound's "Music" from 1977. It's a unique disco record and very engaging, all the effects you hear on this record were done by PAJ this is back in the day of reel to reel tape, had to record it then review to mark it two seconds after you heard it with a white grease pencil, cut and then taped it together on backside of the tape and voila this audio extravaganza! These days it gets digitized and I can cut with more accuracy and then copy paste until I finish sometimes in less than an hour. I am certain that this guy probably spent several hours getting the smashes and sync right.
The song is a wild ride for those in a party mood, much like Karen Young's raucous "Hot Shot" full of raw energy and pleasant suprises. Montreal was the New York Of The North in the 70's. During the disco era the bars were open until 3:00AM and I usually closed the bars.
This one was a welcome change in that the element of suprise has never been soooo catchy!
Gerry Bribosia and Jerry De Villiers were both musicians, composers and arrangers got together for a one shot recording of Montréal Sounds "Music". Commissioned by the Canadian Record Pool which provided Quebec DJ's with the latest and greatest tunes during the disco era. So the tape was passed on to PAJ named for the first letter of their names Pierre Gagnon, Allen Vallières et Jean Barbeau.
PAJ started a remixing club for DJ and club use by pioneering this move in Quebec starting in 1976 and artists would send them the tapes and they would do the extensions and send them back to print the actual record. Hot Tracks did not start until 1982. Proof of their talent is evident on how influential it became, I thought I heard a lot of "Pump Up The Volume" but they got there first.
