Stepan Sabadash: Спогад (Memory)
Phillip Sear plays a song by the Ukrainian composer, conductor and choirmaster, Stepan Sabadash (Степан Сабадаш, 1920-2006)
----------------------------------------------------
Sabadash was born in the Chernivtsi region of southwestern Ukraine, bordering Romania. He studied music locally, and found early fame as an accordionist both in Ukraine and Romania, and continued to work in Chernivtsi as a choral director and also conductor of his own light orchestra, for which he wrote many works. In 1967, he relocated to Kyiv, where he worked as the leader of the musical and instrumental ensemble of the October Palace.
This arrangement was published in a 1960s Ukrainian anthology of piano arrangements of contemporary popular songs. The words to the song (which I have not been able to see) are by the Ukrainian lyricist for many leading composers of the period, Dmitry Lutsenko (1921-89).
