Hendrix, the Echoplex EP-2, and String Journals
These are actually two separate subjects. Hendrix used the Maestro Echoplex EP-2 in the studio. It is the tube version before the solid state EP-3 version which came out in the early '70's. Led Zeppelin used the EP-3 with fantastic results. Listen to "If 6 Was 9" with headphones and you will hear the low rumble of the Echoplex motor in the noise floor. They are a great effect if you can get them to work properly. They are high maintenance and need frequent cleaning. I tell the story of how I've wanted one ever since I played my first one way back in 1974.
Sting journalling is just that; keeping track of your string changes if you have multiple guitars. I found it useful to help decide when it is time to change strings. If they have only been on for a few weeks, then I will just replace single strings if I break them. If they've been on for several months, then I'll go ahead and replace the whole set.
