NORTH SHORE, OAHU, HAWAI'I--Road Trip and Cliff Jump // 243

On one of the best days of my trip in Hawai'i, I went with some new friends on a road trip around Oahu island! We started in the south, in Waikiki where our hostel is, then drove straight north, then followed the eastern coast down before circling around to the airport.

This road trip to North Shore, Oahu was a fantastic day trip. We left around 11am, took our time, and made it back to Honolulu airport by 7pm to catch our evening flights.

The first stop on our North Shore road trip on Oahu island was the town of Haleiwa. Haleiwa has roadside surf shops and a harbor busy with kayakers. There are a few food trucks, but not much else to see. After walking up and down the main street in Haleiwa, we continued north.

The second stop on our North Shore road trip in Oahu was Waimea Bay. Waimea bay is best known for its monstrous cliff jumping rock positioned conveniently between the beach and a prime cliff jump location in the swells of the waves. Cliff jumping on the north shore is done at Waimea bay. It's safe in the summer months and you won't be the only participant. After we cliff jumped at Waimea Bay, we continued north.

The third stop on our North Shore road trip in Oahu was Turtle Bay. We were eager to see some famed Hawaiian sea turtles, but were disappointed to realize Turtle Bay is just a nice golf resort, not a wildlife habitat.

The fourth stop on our North Shore road trip in Oahu was the famous Pipeline surf spot. Pipeline, Oahu is known as the best surfing spot in the world, home to many international championships! It's a surfer's fantasy to be at Pipeline, Oahu.

The fifth stop on our North Shore road trip in Oahu was Kahuku, the city of food trucks! We had our choice of food trucks in Kahuku and ended with salad, fried pork, and cheese fries. There were tacos, shrimp, fish, burgers, smoothies, coffee, fro-yo, waffles, and more available.

The sixth stop on our North Shore road trip in Oahu was Kahana Bay, a spontaneous stop to see the gorgeous contrast of the green mountains dipping into the rolling blue Pacific.

The seventh and final stop on our North Shore road trip in Oahu was Lanikai Beach, supposedly the most beautiful beach in the world. Indeed, the water was clear and blue, and the sand clean and white. Lanikai Beach is certainly one of the most beautiful beaches I've been to, but I don't know if it's number 1.

Road tripping to the North Shore in Oahu, Hawai'i was a great, GREAT experience! I really recommend it to anyone visiting Waikiki and looking for an out-of-town day trip!
