This video is the long-promised explanation as to how I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail on keto diet (low-carb, high-fat) in 2018. In the video, I talk about my background with diet and weight loss; the problems male thru-hikers normally face with diet, weight loss and resupply; my decision to try a low-carb diet while backpacking the Appalachian Trail; how I resupplied; what I ate; the benefits of a keto diet and how it made me feel. I also discuss books and other resources for those interested in keto backpacking or low-carb backpacking. Finally, my experience on the trail is also relevant for issues related to keto diets for athletes; whether keto enhances athletic performance; and whether low carb keto diets can work for endurance athletes.
