Timber King 1400 Log Turner Final Modification Part 2

Fork Creek Mill – Timberking 1400 Log Turner Final Upgrade? Part 2 of 2
This video consists of the final upgrade to the flat old style TimberKing log turner. The log turner had to be moved out from the side support rail due to interference with the log stop drive shaft. The original log turner was the old straight design that let the logs ride up on the turner dogs. A dog leg was added to the end of the log turner in addition to moving it out from the rail to increase the turner angle to the log thus increasing the efficiency. I used a 2000# winch as a turner motor with a 16 tooth sprocket for # 40H chain. Replacing the ¼” plate on the drive side in it’s entirety is recommended along with increasing the thickness to ½” to resist the applied stresses. The only reason I did not go with the large Ramsey winch motor to power the log turner was that a two stage gear box (10 tooth to 30 tooth) would be needed in front of the inlet shaft. If the smaller winch does not provide enough power and speed then some time in the future the Ramsey motor, gear box and new ½” plate will be installed. Safety stop switches still need to be installed on the log stop and log dog. All the winches should be protected by breakers and are in the process of being installed.
This is not a how to video and is for entertainment only as it just shows what I am doing with my mill. Remember you are responsible for your own safety. All rotating equipment should have proper guards at all times. Band saws, power tools and tractors are inherently dangerous and can be extremely dangerous if not operated properly. YOU, the operator, are responsible for the safe operation of the band saw, power tools and tractor. You must carefully read and follow any warnings, safety signs and instructions provided with or located on the band saw, power tools or tractor. Do not remove, defeat, deface, or render inoperable any of the safety devices or warnings on the band saw, power tools or tractor. All guidelines for proper setup and use provided by the saw blade manufacturer, power tool manufacturer and band saw manufacturer should be followed. Caution should be taken when using power equipment or tools and all recommended safety precautions from the tool or equipment manufacture should be utilized. It is important to inspect all tools and equipment before each use for condition and that all safety equipment is functioning. Thanks
