CRHnews - Hand made road signs 'threat' from plastic replacements

Attempting to discover exactly when the hand made road signs, like the High Street ones were made, from the 140+ year old Royal Label Factory.

UPDATE 11.06.18 from Paul Dunning, of http://www.pauldunning.com/

"I don’t know when the first signs were made, but areas of Chelmsford like Springfield and North Melbourne have them, so they were certaunly in production at that time those estates were built.

"I expect digging around Essex Records Office may produce comissioning documents that may give an idea of the first use.

"Fun fact - they were originally blue on blue - check out my Flickr site here:

I managed to find that one that had not been painted black and white - though on some you’ll see the orignal colours peeking through."

If you are interested in seeing where the street name plates were when I photographed them (some are missing, presumed melted down for cola cans), there is a map here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1bgIkGIZCfN5bvw2c4JmW88hdFnE&ll=51.73032867616683%2C0.4757274999999481&z=13
