Monsoon Mayhem! Floods, landslides in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, India

Monsoon mayhem continues to wreak havoc in parts of India.  A cloudburst occurred in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand, while flash floods and landslides hit Himachal Pradesh. Water also entered the caves of Tapkeshwar, a famous Shiva temple on the banks of the Tons river.
In neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, a railway bridge in the Kangra district collapsed after one of its three pillars gave in because of heavy rainfall.

A cloudburst hit the Raipur-Kumalda area, causing rivers to breach their banks and wash away bridges. Due to landslides, many highways were closed in several places blocked by debris. Strong streams of water destroyed houses and cars. Mud entered homes in over a dozen villages following the cloudburst.

Rain alert has been sounded in Kangra, Chamba, Bilaspur, Sirmaur, and Mandi districts. Due to incessant rain in the Mandi area, schools have been ordered to remain closed.

Monsoon this year continues to jeopardise lives of thousands of people across multiple states of the country.
