90W Laser Cutter From Scratch | Y-400 [Part 2]
In part one of the Y-400 laser cutters build, I cut the 2020 and 2040 extrusion to size and built the gantry. In part two, I continue the process of creating the frame and installing the electronics.
I began by creating the outer frame for the laser cutter. Next, I located, marked, and drilled the holes to mount the frame to the cabinet. I removed the frame and set it aside for the rest of this build. I will mount the frame on the cabinet after I test the electronics in the next part.
To mount the X-Axis drag chain, I had to drill and tap two M3 holes on the X-Axis carriage plate. I 3D printed mounting brackets on the Prusa i3 MK3S for the other end of the drag chain on the X-Axis along with both ends of the Y-Axis drag chain. I 3D printed parts for the X and Y-Axis limit switches.
Finally, I located the electronics on the top of the cabinet and used 6-32 threaded inserts for mounting. I used crimp connectors on the ends of all the wires and used adhesive cable tie mounts and zip ties to keep the wiring neat. The crimp connectors come in handy when using screw terminals!
