High Action Seal Rescue 4-in-1

Antoine and Naude from Ocean Conservation Namibia (www.ocnamibia.org) were joined for their daily seal patrols by local surfers Shaun and Uwe, they did a great job spotting entangled seals and assisting with the rescues.
The activists could see 3 entangled seal pups within close proximity of each other. Antoine and Naude came up with a strategy (which almost never goes according to plan!) and gave chase. Naude first caught a young male seal stuck in an orange plastic mesh vegetable bag. Simultaneously, Antoine secured another pup , who had a ball of fishing line wrapped around her, with their customer built seal catching net. Before rescuing this seal, Antoine had to run off to a female pup with a deep cut around her neck. The cut was caused by a thin cotton string. Naude came to help him remove this string once he had finished cutting loose the vegetable bag on the first seal.
Naude again ran off after a young male pup in the distance with some thin line around his neck. He quickly managed to secure the youngster and cut him free with his Leatherman Raptor.
Antoine and Naude then returned to the first pup, still patiently waiting in the net. This particular one was stuck in a big ball of snoek fishing line - the most common entanglement material encountered out at Pelican Point, Namibia.
