Dramatic Seal Rescue in the Water

After a long morning of Cape Fur Seal rescues, Naude and Antoine from Ocean Conservation Namibia (www.ocnamibia.org) came across a young (1-2 year old) pup with a big ball of commercial fishing line around him. While scanning Naude also saw a suspicious piece of green trawler net further down the beach and it was decided that Antoine would chase down the pup in the line with the net, while Naude would investigate the net to see if it had a seal attached to it.
They ran in together and split up. Antoine could not catch his seal before it reached the water but that didn't stop him. He ran through a gully of water and gave chase again on a sandbank where he managed to secure the seal in the net.
Naude ran to where the netting was lying and found it still there, unattached to any seal. He saw Antoine needed help on the sand bank, but at the last minute found another young female with a thin piece of leather strip tied around her neck. He quickly caught her by hand and cut her free. From there he threw off his shoes and waded through the gully to help Antoine with the feisty pup still stuck in the net. All went well and both seals were released without any major issues. 🦭
