King Harald of Norway urgently hospitalized

King Harald of Norway was admitted to the hospital Monday with an infection, the palace confirmed in a statement.

"The king has been diagnosed with an infection that needs to be treated, so he will remain in the hospital for several days," the palace said, adding that his condition "is improving, but he will remain on sick leave until the end of the week." King Harald, 86, is in a "stable" condition and is being treated at Rikshospitalet, the university hospital in Oslo, in the Norwegian capital. His son, Crown Prince Håkon, will take over his father's duties this week and will serve as regent, including hosting an upcoming state visit by the president of Italy.
