Making my Essential Tool Belt
I've been searching for a specific tool belt in all the big box stores (and online) but I've always come up empty handed. I'm looking for a few important features; it has to be very low-profile with a handful of small/medium pockets, has to have a leather hammer loop, and most importantly a sturdy tape measure clip. I couldn't find one anywhere, so I had to modify one for myself.
I started with a Kunys AP-617 "half carpenter apron" because it already has many of the things I want. I removed the flappy pocket and used the leather to create another medium-sized pocket. I also added a tape measure clip. The large pocket was too big and had a tendency to hang open when loaded up, so I divided it in half to provide two smaller pockets for screwdrivers or pliers.
I'll be using this belt around the workshop to hold essential items like pencils, sharpies, a short ruler, and a tape measure. The other pockets are useful for the odd jobs that need a few extra tools like pliers or screwdrivers. The hammer loop is very handy and I prefer a leather loop that doesn't get in the way, and won't damage walls or furniture like a steel hoop would.
