Learn Tibetan | Lesson 10 – The Six Senses in Tibetan Thought

Tashi delek and welcome to our Tibetan language course!
In this tenth lesson, we explore how Tibetans understand the senses — not just five, but six! You’ll learn the Tibetan terms for sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, and mind as the sixth sense.
Unlike the Western view that separates body and thought, Tibetan and Buddhist traditions see the senses as gateways to perception and awareness.
This view links the physical and mental worlds, helping us see how experience arises from both.

Special thanks to photo authors Eleonor Ye, Raimonds Klavins (Unsplash), and Wikipedia for the beautiful imagery that helps bring this topic to life.
