Learn Tibetan | Lesson 15 — Time in Tibetan Verbs: Completed, Ongoing, Experienced

In this lesson, we explore how the Tibetan language talks about time — and why it focuses less on past, present, and future, and more on whether an action is completed, ongoing, or experienced.

Using simple Tibetan verb forms, we compare this approach with Chinese and Japanese, where aspect and completion are also more important than strict tenses. This grammatical choice reflects a deeper worldview: time is felt and experienced, not just measured.

A short tea break is included ☕ — because some ideas deserve a pause.

🎨 Some of the visual mood in this lesson is inspired by contemporary Tibetan art.
If you’re curious — look up the works of Tashi Bema ✨
Language and art often speak the same philosophy.
