Why do we need more marine protected areas?
The ocean makes life possible: it produces at least 50% of the planet's oxygen, is home to most of the Earth's biodiversity, and absorbs about 30% of the carbon dioxide we humans emit. But this incredible capacity is in danger... That's why we need more marine protected areas!
By creating no-take marine protected areas - extractive activities forbidden; we will be contributing to the recovery of those delicate marine ecosystems, which are severely threatened and degraded. Once these are healthy and functional, they will trigger the spillover effect, establishing fishing hotspots around the marine park.
Creating no-take marine protected areas, we safeguard Chile's natural and cultural heritage!
